The Most Flexible Approach to Wholesale IoT Connectivity Pricing

Two pricing models designed for transparency, control, and scale

When you hear the word wholesale, you might think pricing that only works at massive scale, long-term contracts, or big minimum commitments.

For years, that’s exactly how wholesale connectivity worked. Access was something you earned over time, not something you could choose upfront. Pricing models were built for predictable, static deployments, and they rarely changed once locked in. That approach made sense in a world where connectivity needs stayed the same.

But if you’re deploying IoT-connected devices today, you know it doesn’t look like that anymore.

Devices move. Usage patterns evolve. Deployments scale unevenly across regions. Teams need pricing models that can adapt as quickly as their products do.

That’s why we’ve been rethinking how wholesale pricing should work at Simbase and introducing a more flexible approach built around choice, transparency, and data usage.

Wholesale Pricing (Our Way)

“There isn’t a single ‘right’ way to scale IoT connectivity.” says Roel Van Der Meer, CEO & Founder of Simbase. “Some teams need simplicity early on, others need precision as they grow. We built wholesale pricing around that reality, giving customers flexibility without forcing them into premature commitments.”

In practice, Wholesale Rate Plan Pricing is accessed through a flat monthly subscription, with billing handled directly through the customer’s account balance.

Instead of forcing all customers into a single wholesale model, Simbase Wholesale Pricing offers two distinct ways to access discounted connectivity, depending on how your deployment operates today and how it may evolve tomorrow.

Both options are designed to remove unnecessary complexity while giving teams more control over how they pay for connectivity.

Two Ways to Get Direct Access to Wholesale Pricing

Option 1: Wholesale Rate Plan Pricing

Wholesale Rate Plan Pricing is designed for customers scaling on Simbase’s existing rate plans, as well as new customers deploying at volumes where discounted rates deliver meaningful savings.

This option provides access to discounted data rates on Simbase’s current rate plans through a flat monthly subscription. Once activated, all usage on the account is billed at these reduced rates, without changing how plans, workflows, or devices are managed.

What this means in practice:

  • You keep using the same plans and workflows

  • Pricing is immediately more competitive

  • Discounted rates are clearly visible in the platform

  • There’s no operational overhead or configuration required

Wholesale Rate Plan Pricing focuses purely on pricing benefits. It does not change support levels, service structure, or platform functionality. It simply makes scaling more cost-effective as usage grows.

This option is ideal for:

  • Growing deployments on existing Simbase rate plans

  • New deployments with sufficient usage to benefit from discounted rates

  • Teams that value predictability

  • Companies that want better pricing without introducing complexity

Option 2: Wholesale Network Pricing

Wholesale Network Pricing is designed for teams that want maximum flexibility and cost alignment.

Instead of pricing connectivity at a regional or global bundle level, Network Pricing allows customers to price usage at the individual mobile network level. Devices are billed based on the network they actually use, not the broadest region they might occasionally enter.

This approach solves a common scaling challenge. Many deployments are concentrated in a small number of countries, but traditional plans force higher blended pricing across all usage just to cover edge cases.

With Network Pricing:

  • Customers select which networks devices can use

  • Each network has its own data rate

  • Higher-cost roaming only applies when devices actually roam

  • Global reach is possible without global pricing everywhere

Network Pricing is particularly well suited for:

  • Multi-country deployments

  • Products that may roam unpredictably

  • Teams that want cost control without restricting device movement

Why Two Models?

IoT deployments rarely scale in a straight line.

Some teams require ease and predictability early on. Others need granular control as their footprint expands. Many will move between these needs over time.

By offering both Wholesale Rate Plan Pricing and Wholesale Network Pricing, Simbase gives customers the ability to:

  • Start with simplicity

  • Add control when it makes sense

  • Avoid long-term commitments before scale is proven

Both options are built on the same principle. Pricing should reflect real usage, not assumptions.

Designed for Transparency and Flexibility

Across both wholesale options:

  • Pricing is visible and predictable

  • Activation is fast

  • Customers maintain control over when and how they commit

  • Changes are communicated clearly and in advance

This approach reflects how teams build products today, iteratively, globally, and with the expectation that things will change.
