Frequently Asked Questions

If any of your questions remain unanswered, reach out to our team to answer them for you.

How can I access custom country or network coverage?

You can manage custom country or network coverage directly in the Simbase Dashboard. Simply select the SIM card you'd like to configure, choose the appropriate coverage zone, and your changes will take effect in under a minute.

Simbase gives you the flexibility to adapt your IoT SIM coverage on demand—whether you're expanding into new markets or optimizing for cost and performance. Switch coverage zones as needed, with no contracts or delays.

How does a Simbase SIM connect across different countries?

Simbase offers global IoT connectivity through a single SIM card that automatically connects to the strongest available network in each country.

When your IoT device moves across borders or loses signal, the SIM intelligently switches to another available network—without manual intervention or roaming fees. This ensures continuous, reliable coverage for moving fleets, cross-border deployments, or remote devices.

To ensure access, simply activate the relevant coverage zone in the dashboard.

What happens if a country I need isn’t listed?

If a specific country or network isn’t listed in your coverage options, reach out to our team. We can often custom-enable network access based on your use case.

Simbase is committed to expanding and tailoring coverage so your IoT devices stay connected wherever your business operates.

How does Simbase select a network when multiple are available?

Simbase SIMs are non-steered, meaning they don’t prioritize one carrier over another. Your device connects to the best available network based on real-time signal strength and performance—ensuring maximum uptime.

The actual selection is handled by your device’s cellular modem and firmware, which scan for nearby towers and connect to the optimal option based on signal quality, frequency compatibility, and network load.

We recommend keeping your firmware updated for best results.

What networks and technologies are supported globally?

Simbase provides access to 391+ networks across 190+ countries, supporting:

2G, 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G where available

Regional LTE-M and NB-IoT support (in select zones)

Private and public IP options

Secure VPN configurations

Whether you're deploying sensors in rural areas or managing high-data cameras in urban centers, Simbase ensures your devices use the fastest and most reliable connection available.

What’s the difference between LTE, 4G, and 5G for IoT?

4G and LTE are often used interchangeably. LTE (Long-Term Evolution) is a type of 4G, providing high-speed, low-latency data ideal for most IoT use cases.

5G offers even faster speeds and lower latency but is still rolling out globally and best suited for high-bandwidth or ultra-low latency use cases like real-time video or autonomous vehicles.

Simbase SIMs support all three where available, giving your devices access to the most suitable network based on their location and capabilities.
