Getting started with Simbase

Simbase is an IoT connectivity provider, cellular SIMs and eSIMs, plus a dashboard for managing them across a fleet. These docs cover everything: account setup, the dashboard, billing, devices, the API, and webhooks. This page is the starting point for new customers and the index for the onboarding flow.

If you're new, start here

Five short articles, in order. Most people get through them in under 30 minutes.

  1. Create a Simbase account - sign up, verify your email, pick your billing currency.

  2. Register a Simbase SIM card - register one SIM or a whole batch in the dashboard.

  3. Set up the Simbase APN on your device - configure the device so it can attach to the network.

  4. Set up billing and add balance - add funds so your SIMs can pass traffic.

  5. Activate a Simbase eSIM (optional) - for devices using a downloadable SIM profile instead of a plastic card.

After step 4, your SIMs can attach to the network, pass data, and show up in the dashboard. Step 5 only applies if you ordered eSIMs.

The rest of the docs

The sidebar covers nine other sections. Briefly:

  • Fundamentals: concept articles for SIM technology (Multi-IMSI vs eUICC), networking (IP, NAT, VPN), and the radio access layer. Read these when you want to understand what's happening, not just configure it.

  • Dashboard: reference for every feature in the Simbase dashboard. SIM state, coverage, SMS, tags, diagnostics, public IPs, usage limits, theft protection, and the Usage Guard toolkit.

  • Account security: multi-factor authentication and passkeys for your Simbase account.

  • Billing: what's billable, how data usage is measured, and supported payment methods.

  • Account management: users, roles, and your account timezone.

  • Webhooks: receive notifications from Simbase when things happen on your account.

  • Private Networks & IPsec: Dedicated private networks with static IPs, connected over WireGuard or IPsec, for traffic that shouldn't touch the public internet.

  • Device configuration: compatibility checks and per-device setup guides (Fritz!Box, Teltonika, GL.iNet).

  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting: fixes for the most common connectivity problems.
